As you may or may not know, having a responsive website is essential to your small business in today’s mobile world. With so many different devices being used to access websites, and many people accessing the same website on more than one device, it’s important to understand why you should have a responsive website and what the statistics are on device use. A responsive website is a website that looks and functions the same across all devices. A responsive website will automatically adjust itself to the device it’s being accessed on for ease of use and customer service, which means no pinching necessary on your small mobile phone screen.

According to Mashable, more than 60 percent of people use at least two different technological devices per day to access the internet. More than 40 percent use at least three! Imagine all of the different devices currently being used to access your small business website, including mobile phones, tablets, laptop and desktop computers. Amongst the people that use 2 or more different devices in a day, more than 50 percent of them say that they begin a task on one device and finish it on another.

The total number of connected devices is expected to grow as they become more and more common in households. Projections made by Cisco say that by 2018 there will be nearly 1.4 mobile devices per person on the planet… more mobile devices than the population! Mark Bulling, Custom Market Insights lead at Facebook says, “"The days of just having a desktop computer or a laptop are kind of a long time ago now, and the rise of the smartphone and tablet mean more and more people having more and more devices.”

The data that has come from these connected devices and research done on their usage suggests that small businesses need to take advantage of having consistency across all platforms, thus, responsive websites. Being prepared for users to begin a task on one device and finish it on another is also key. Having the ability for information to be remembered on the website for users to finish where they left off would help in this situation. Websites By The Month can assist your small business in creating a responsive website that can be accessed consistently across multiple devices and allow for optimal customer user experience.
